Are Christians in the UK discriminated against?

So this nurse who was removed from front-line duty to a desk role because she refused to take off her crucifix, claims that she has been crucified for her faith (insert eye-rolling)

remember your Holy Marys?

On another front, 12 women in women’s football team were told by FIFA not to wear head scarves while playing footie (LMAO) seriously? Forgive my ignorance but isn’t that dangerous, gives the opponent something to pull which could lead to choking and other serious accidents. I know women in the middle east wear their head scarves to play sports etc but really…

It turns out that a few church leaders have openly declared that Christians in the UK are being discriminated against. Not sure what this claim is founded on. But i have found myself thinking this on various occasions, usually when there’s a ridiculous Bill being proposed in parliament encroaching on Christian principles.

There isn’t much sense to make out of this one for me, the only thing i see is that a lot of people in the UK would describe themselves to have Christian heritage, but most of them are quick to declare they are not ‘religious’ themselves. I won’t be surprised if in reality,  Christians form a minority in the UK, after all, church leaders would be the very first to tell you about the empty pews and graveyard services.

I also wonder, is there really anything surprising about Christians being discriminated against. It’s scriptural isn’t it? For centuries Christians have had a free pass and have enjoyed many freedoms. Gradually, this has been encroached upon, but unfortunately they haven’t really spoken out about it. The UK is almost unrecognisably a Christian society, it’s very clearly a secular one in all but name – well i’m sure we’re one step away.

Some folks are quick to put up their arms in protest saying Christians are usually the ones perpetrating persecution and discrimination against homosexuals etc… And i guess i don’t blame them. As a believer myself, I’m frustrated by this because in the grand scheme of things it’s not really an issue… as far as homosexuality is concerned, it’s just as bad as pre-marital sex…

And if a man chooses to marry a man… well.

pucker up... what feeling does this image conjure for you?

It brings to mind the story of the couple who run a B&B in their home who decided to refuse a gay couple accommodation on the basis of their faith and they were arrested for it. What was a footnote in the media reporting was that the couple refuse all unmarried couples seeking a room – gay or straight. I’ll leave you with that thought.

I’m curious though. What do people feel about this? In your opinion are Christians in the UK being persecuted? And what’s your view about homosexuals? Would you offer  your spare room to a gay couple? Be honest pls?
