An occupational hazard for me is getting extremely irritated and annoyed on week day mornings by trashy newspaper articles.
There’s a couple that have me going this morning and they’ve both got a race slant.
For some banal reason tabloid papers get really worked up when the Office of National Statistics publish data –I get the impression some lazy journalists just look through the immigration and race statistics and pull our scaremongering stories like this one .

What’s most interesting is that the journalist has specifically referred to ‘British born workers’ so what about people who have attained British nationality by other means? They are not true Brits hunh?
Such news stories build on the misconception that people who work in this country are spongers making a living at the cost of ‘British born’ people – it thrives on the fear that the UK is a very small island and there isn’t enough room for all of us, and with more people feeling the pinch, they feel entitled to jobs and wealth based on their nationality and not qualification.
It’s so irritating that some people would rather stay on the welfare system and cheat it ten times over than don a hair net and work at McDonald’s while studying to get a degree, or even work all the hours God sends cleaning bed-pans or scrubbing train station toilets. Yet, they kick up a fuss when they find out more jobs go to immigrants who are just grateful to be in the country and have uninterrupted electricity, free-flowing water and a decent enough transport system.
What’s even more hilarious is that the Home Office has put a cap on companies hiring bright minds from outside the European Union on the basis that they have to favour those who go to university to major in pub ethics and club revolution. HA! What a joke.

The second idiotic story in the papers this morning is this one about black women being unattractive.
As though black women were not struggling enough with self-image issues, all they need is a professional to validate feelings of low self-esteem on the basis that the race has been around longer than others and their genes have gone through more mutation – if anything I guess it explains the hike in the price of a good Brazilian weave *insert eye rolling* The funny thing about the story is that while black women are less attractive, black men are breaking the scales of attractiveness…
What do you guys think about this drivel? Do you think black women are less attractive than their Asian and Caucasian sisters? And what are your thoughts about the news of almost 3 million more immigrants in the UK, if you’ve been refused a work permit recently, or any sort of visa, this must really bust your chops…
You have got to be kidding me, a newspaper article actually said that about black women!?!?!??? On what basis? A survey of 30 caucasian males based in some village in Northampton? Pls, I want to read this one
Apparently the so called psychologist from LSE has been miss yarning a lot in the past. His original blog post that kicked off this crazyness has been deleted, but i imagine the guy is just looking to boost his career.

Errmmm.. well, not quite i must say. And even when i have they tend to be South American or European (as opposed to british). I’ve heard something about other races not knowing how to approach / chat up black chics cos we intimidating or something. Ohh sigh…

My South American brothers get top points and the men on the continent are rather interesting, the French dudes especially i hear have no problems wooing women from all races – all they have to do is speak
That said, I can beleive that gist about white blokes being intimidated by black women -scared off by the reputation of fiesty-ness. If only they knew it’s only a front, dudes need to be bolder.
Racisms reads all over that articles! It’s crazy. Just like here in US, only immigrant would take jobs that no American will takes and yet, American are complaining that immigrants are stealing their jobs. Seriously, go ahead and apply at one of the farm to pick up Strawberry or Jalapeno at 3 am in the morning and only get paid 5 cents/pint see how you like it? Or be a janitor at public places. Oh.. I forgot, it’s too hard of a job and very demeaning.
And the other article about Black woman is not attractive? Whoever wrote that just got their heart broken by a beautiful black (and smart) woman that’s why he is so bitter! If it’s written by a woman, that she is just some jealous beeacth. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Some favor the look of Angelina Jolie than Cameron Diaz or Beyonce over Kate Middleton. Doesn’t make one is more beautiful or uglier than the others. We all have our preference. I myself prefer Daniel Washington over Brat Pitts and I end up with my Asian dude.. hehehe

@Sendie – Lou, you’re spot on. No one wants the crap jobs, they just want to be sure there’s more welfare to go round while they mooch. To be fair, a lot of immigrants take advantage of a good system and ruin things for others, but the reality is that, most western economies were build on the backs of immigrants – in fact founding fathers of the US and the UK were immigrants!
So true, beauty is a persoal choice, really foolish to claim black women are unattractive.

I think that it is unfortunately true, but depends on many factors, including country of origin. Certainly us Negroes have more than our fair share of unappealing types, of both male and female, but I suppose it is more noticeable with the females. That is not to say that we don’t have some stunningly beautiful women too (I could watch Beverly Johnson in Ashanti all day long!), just less of them overall.
I don’t think we can blame this man for pointing out the obvious, after all in the UK over half of all black men these days have white partners (I don’t). The fastest growing ethnic group is black/white mixed race.
The irony is of course that black women (and men) have many of the traits that seem to be in fashion, nice skin tone, white teeth (helped by the skin, obviously) and all also are traits that we associate with being fit and healthy.
I suppose it also depends on personal preference. As a Negro man of advancing years, I have to admit that I find more white women attractive than black women on a typical day. Yet dark hair and dark skin is what I find MOST attractive, and a Negro lady exemplifies this.
I am also quite lucky in that I have a beautiful wife, a beautiful daughter and a beautiful grandaughter.
I’m not entirely sure I agree with your comment about black people having more than their fair share of unappealing ones. It’s probably me being in denial.
I do agree with you that beauty is a trend, what’s hot today many not be tomorrow.
You know the more I think about this, I don’t see why it’s an issue for a black man to be attracted to a White one- we’re all human, the same specie, just different breeds right.
It’s funny some men are quite apologetic about liking White women and others are rather arrogant about it – the race of the woman a man dates doesn’t make him better than anyone else.

I think black women need to take better care of themselves and learn what being attractive is with their own features but that embracing mainstream norms as well. Interesting mix but achievable. I do this and men find me attractive.
