Ok… this post is mostly about images…
Images like these explain why girls as young as 13 wear risqué outfits and bare all their bits for all to see. These are their role models. The women they look up to earn millions while they gyrate and prance about half-naked, so why will they listen to me when I tell them to cover up a bit more and at very least obey the breast/leg rule – you know, show one at a time and not both at one…
I really don’t want to get into how the music industry plays is very effective in forming the opinions of young people and robbing them of their innocence, i think enough people have said enough about that… it is what it is, but I’m just horrified at how blatant these things are.
How do you tell a girl to dress decently and not lasciviciously when most of the female women in the public eye who are ‘cool’ are rail thin, rich and more often than not dressed irresponsibly.
There’s so much to admire about Beyonce, but then every time I see an image of her performances, I can’t help but think, ‘why!? woman why!? This one i dont’ really get – she can sing, she really doesnt need to distract people from her vocals by revealing all her bits and bobs for all to see. Even if it’s that she wants to show off her fab abs and grade a derrier, surely there are classier ways of doing this?
Please tell me if I’m being a prude about this. I know people say black girls hate on Beyonce. I’m a black woman, and i have no beef with this woman, she’s totally talented in more ways than one and she’s got an amazing voice and she beautiful -yadiyadiyadah, but why does she have to be dressed like this??
Guys, what do you think, am i being a bit too extra, or do you think this is fine and people should be more self-controlled when the watch and listen to music, or do you think artists should be more responsible about how they portray themselves and manipulate their audiences?
disclaimer: did this in a rush, so please forgive all grammatical and typographical errors.

I would answer this as a lad.
My head says it is wrong for females to prance about showing their sexy bits in raunchy outfits.
My err, heart, err, seems not to mind. I am a fella after all. And as far as it is not my daughter, wife or sister, I am good. Lol.
Nah seriously, these artistes will do anything to sell records. The goalposts keep on being shifted. As natural talents peter down, and music becomes more mass produced, sex would continue to sell.
I know you are right on all counts, but it really grieves me. It should be criminal for these people to deceive and mislead young people in such filth.
The subtly of it all is what gets me, young people are so vulnerable and exposed- thy are like sheep being led to the slaughter. A bit strong – I know but that’s how I feel about it.
The fact is that, parents an guardians should be more responsible, but we’re all chasing paper and leaving our children in the care of Nanny Riri and Britney courtesy of MTV.
Dude, you and every man on this planet have double standard when ky comes to their daughters and sisters – talk true- don’t hide behind jokes
Funny, I was just having a similar discussion with my girlfriends this evening.. There was a show about celebrating Beyonce over the years and you could literally see the clothes shedding as the years went by.
It’s sad to realise that unfortunately, these are the ladies that young girls adore and model their lives after.
Like you said in your article, she’s successful and talented, she doesn’t need to bare it all.. She rose to fame without having to take off her clothes.. I guess the world has changed since then and there’s so much competition..
I think we need more role models as an anti-thesis as it were. We need strong and successful women to stand out and show that you don’t have to dress trashy to be attractive or successful, hence why I LOVE Mrs Obama..
We need more..
It’s funny you mention Mrs Obama, I guess considering the options, she’s a respectable choice and young girls love her.
You’re absolutely right about the need for positive role models, but I feel young people also have to want to be good. After some thought, I’m convinced the likes of Riri and Britney only validate the foolishness people dream up but don’t have the confidence to do – seeing these young women push the boundaries gives them an excuse to do the same. Some kids just need someone to show them being good (and well dressed) can be cool too.
I promise not to hide behind the jokes.
The funny thing is that the other day, I and a friend of mine were discussing this same issues. The validity of music stars as role models. And here is what we agreed one:
1. People should be more responsible for their own salvation. Any adult or teen (who is of a knowing age) who emulates a scanty clad artist or the artist’s antics does so at their own peril. We all have to answer to God for INDIVIDUAL actions. I know that the lines are blurred nowadays and every kid/teen or young adult wants to dress/act like the star they see on TV. Not to come across as an OAP, but in my day (not so far ago, lol) we all loved Michael Jackson – but we did not ‘bleach’ our skin like him. Lol. We knew where to draw the line b/w reality and entertainment.
2. Obviously for infants and really young kids, it is a different kettle of fish as they are still in their formative years. Strong parenting as you mentioned is key. Hence the need for a mother and father figure as you pointed out in your other post. My sister and her hubby are such big advocates of this – Their kids are not allowed to watch mundane music videos , movies with inappropriate content, play ‘action’ video games where the characters blast each other with guns/knives or inappropriate toys.
So there you have it. Sorry for going on and on…Lol
I like your sister and her husband, it’s tough these days to monitor what your children are exposed to. Sounds like she spends a decent amount of time with her kids – that’s the judgement call we all have to make at some point. Unfortunately not everyone can afford a good au pair that’ll help you train your child while you rake in the money – house girls these days are dodgy, chances are they’ll sit and watch the filth with the kids. God help us.
Btw You’re not going on at all – comments are most welcome,
Yeah my sister tried sha. I remember one time I went to visit them, and i went and bought a toy gun for the boy. Her husband dismantled it in front of me, trashed it, and gave him the rubber bullets to use as a buffer for his toy cars. lol.
Could i just say i love your blog.it talks a lot of truth we are afraid to adress in recent times i have never commented on a blog before but your blog is an exception it stands for what a young christain woman in our society today is faced with.
i do agree with the fact that these “celebs” dont have to prance half naked to pass their point across the unfortunate thing is young kids who watch them follow suit very sad to see a kid as young as 5 demanding a lady gaga look…the songs they sing are not any better not that all songs are bad but just most of them the new song from beyonce is an example which IMO makes the “girls” believe they can run the world without working hard and also misplaces the respect to the man issue ……..I could go on but imma stop here just my 2 cents again FANTASTIC BLOG !!!!
Beau, so pleased you enjoyed the post enough to comment, that’s very encouraging.
You’re so right, today’s role models seem to be dishing out a lifestyle totally unsuitable for young people in their art and in their lives.
